Edwards, New York (CNN) — The Edens, a movie theater chain that has been the subject of several high-profile lawsuits, opened a movie and art gallery at its New York City headquarters Monday.
The new space, dubbed “Edwards Cinema,” features a 12-foot-by-12-foot mural by artist and artist of color, Andrea Stahl.
It is a joint venture between the Edens and New York-based art collective The Black Cat, which created the mural for the movie “Fahrenheit 451.”
Edens founder and CEO, James E. Edens III, told CNN that the gallery is intended to show the movie theater community that the Edies have a strong culture, and that the building is not just a theater, but a community center.
Edresses community will be housed in a community lounge and also on the third floor, with a dining room on the first floor and a small bar and lounge upstairs.
The space will have a “cinema, art gallery, and performance space” and be “dedicated to community education,” he said.
The Edens said they’ve been working on a new, bigger, bigger movie theater for more than two years.
They’ve also been working with the Brooklyn Borough of New York to expand their movie theater in the borough.
The building, which opened in 2012, is the third of the Edends five New York movie theaters, which include the Edneys Cinema in Brooklyn, the Eddies Movie Cinema in Manhattan, and the Eddy Cinema in the Bronx.
The Eddies have been trying to sell the Edys movie theater since 2009.
The company announced in December that it would sell its movie theaters to the New York Community Trust, a New York nonprofit that manages the Edes movie theaters.
Eddy Cinemas said in January that the film and art galleries will be a part of the trust’s New York Theatre Museum.
